Several Friends in the Hills Welcome Club members attended a Symphony Classics Concert at
Phoenix Symphony Hall on Friday, March 14, arranged by Chairman Barbara Cardinal. The morning
event included coffee and a pre-concert interview with Mr. David Krakauer, guest clarinet soloist.
During the concert, he performed in Osvaldo Golijov’s “The Dreams and Prayers of Isaac the Blind”.
The piece was written expressly for klezmer clarinet and strings.
The pre-concert program also included an interview with Guest Conductor Alexander Mickelthwaite,
director of Canada’s Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. He masterfully led the Symphony in
Movements 1, 3, and 4 of Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4 in F minor, Opus 36.
After the concert, the club members gathered for lunch at Sam’s Café, located in The Arizona Center
in Phoenix. Among the attendees were two new members, Joanne Thyken and JoBeth Omell, and
three members’ spouses.
